You do have to leave some space between the gravel and the plants base so that the plant can grow and spread out.If you use gravel gardening ideas around the base of the home, you will want to make sure you make a slight slop away from the house to prevent standing water that might leak into the basement. Around the base of the house, you can plant many different plants and use different color gravel or even a mixture for more color. The one thing to keep in mind is you do not want to use colored gravel that will take away from the beauty and colors of the flowers. With proper planning, your gardening experience will be a joy to look at anytime. The thing you must keep in mind when planting flowers around trees and adding gravel is to use a thin layer of gravel so the tree roots can still breathe. If the gravel is too thick or to high on the tree trunk, the tree could eventually start to die. Gravel gardening can be an added attraction to any landscaping project. You will find different sizes of gravel, different colors and different textures. If you do use pea-sized gravel, it will be harder to remove if needed. The larger stones actually work better in gravel gardens. Many local nurseries have gravel for gardens as well as local concrete companies. |
